Small innovations with higher power: Battery specialist exhibiting at Batt Tech Expo 2018

12 January 2018

Medical battery manufacturer Accutronics will be exhibiting from stand D8 at the Battery Tech Expo on March 15, 2018 at the International Centre, Telford. The company will be exhibiting a selection of smart batteries suitable for wearable devices and medical carts from its parent company, Ultralife Corporation.

The growing demand for smart electronics in medical environments has led to technology companies heavily investing in the next generation of power solutions. These technological advancements are expected to open new avenues for battery manufacturers and, as a result, Grand View Research has forecasted that the global battery market will reach $132 billion by 2024.

The Battery Tech Expo brings together engineers and leading manufacturers from across the battery technology industry to showcase the latest innovations in the sector. The event will include seminars covering the latest developments and research on battery management systems, increased storage capacity and batteries for electric vehicles.

Accutronics’ stand will display a range of custom and pre-engineered smart batteries from both Accutronics and Ultralife, including Ultralife’s range of thin cell batteries, which are designed for internet-connected and wearable medical devices.

“Over 26 million units of wearable devices were shipped worldwide in 2017 according to the IDC,” explained Michele Windsor, global marketing manager at Accutronics and Ultralife. “This marks a 7.3 per cent increase on last year’s figure, which is prompting market forecasters to predict that compact and wearable devices will continue to drive the global economy.

“The medical and healthcare sectors are reported to be the largest users of wearable technology, putting original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) under significant pressure to create smaller devices without compromising patient safety or run time.

“Our thin cell battery range was developed to deliver this. The batteries operate at a nominal voltage of 3.0V, offering high energy density, flat discharge curve and a wide operating temperature with a compact footprint. The CP range is designed to provide a safe, reliable and constant source of power to the growing wearable industry.”

With a greater rating than the best lithium coin-cells available on the market, the thin cell can be manufactured as thin as just 1.25mm. This allows device manufacturers to design increasingly compact devices without compromising run time. The range has also been certified to meet the requirements of UL1642 for safety, as well as UN testing for transportation.

Visitors interested in finding out more about Accutronics’ professional battery solutions can visit representatives from the company at Battery Tech Expo on stand D8 on March 15, 2018.
