ARCO’S 125TH ANNIVERSARY – A YEAR TO REMEMBER
16 March 2011
To commemorate its 125th anniversary, Arco set a challenge throughout the business to undertake 125 Good Deeds and raise £125,000 for charity. A year on and Arco has exceeded all expectations as its staff rose to the challenge and achieved:
* Completed 238 good deeds
* Raised over £148,000
* Supported over 200 charities
* Volunteered over 1200 hours in company time
The combined initiatives led to an exciting and overwhelming year in which great enthusiasm, generosity and ingenuity from everyone across the business enabled Arco to exceed its target. From voluntary acts of kindness to sponsored team runs and £10k donations to charity, the Arco team more than delivered.
As well as local support through its 40-branch network, the Arco Board also made three donations of £10,000 each to national charities: Help for Heroes, the NSPCC and the Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund, a registered charity dedicated to giving aid and assistance to construction workers and their families who suffer accident or ill health.
Arco is also an active and supportive member of communities in need around the world including the Afghanaid Appeal; an international humanitarian, non-governmental organisation that focuses on long-term sustainable development in some of Afghanistan’s poorest rural areas. To support this vital work, Arco donated a full container of clothing. Arco also donated £10,000 to the DEC Haiti appeal and the first of Arco’s 125 Good Deeds was to assist deaf children in the developing world by donating one per cent of the sales of its E-gard range to the charity Sound Seekers.
Thomas Martin and Nick Hildyard, Joint Managing Directors commented: “There was a fantastic response from across the business to smash both Target £125k and 125 Good Deeds. Arco people are always enthusiastic, supportive and up for a challenge but we were astonished at how readily everyone embraced these initiatives to celebrate our 125th anniversary, with a variety of events taking place throughout the year and across the country. Throughout our history we have supported our surrounding communities but this extra activity during our 125th year makes us proud to be leading such a dynamic and committed organization”.
